De Angelis began his career as a choirboy in the Sistine Chapel, among others . After his voice broke, he studied singing at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1903 he made his debut at the Teatro Comunale in Aquila as Prefect in Linda di Chamounix ; this was followed by an appearance in Emilio Usiglio's Le educande di Sorrento at the same house . In 1904 he sang Alvise in La Gioconda by Amilcare Ponchielli at the Teatro Lirico in Milan , in 1905 he traveled to Holland and in 1906 to South America.

He made his debut at La Scala in Milan in 1907 as Alvise in La Gioconda and appeared there regularly until 1914, mostly under the direction of Arturo Toscanini , and also in the period after the First World War until 1933. He had significant successes in the world premiere of Francesco Cileas Gloria (1907), as high priest in Gaspare Spontini's La vestale (1908), Procida in I vespri siciliani (1909), Kreon in Medea (1910), Zaccaria in Nabucco (1913), in the title roles of Mosè in Egitto and Mefistofele (both 1918) as Hunding in Die Walküre (1924), Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia and King Philipp in Don Carlo .

De Angelis enjoyed particular popularity in South America. Between 1909 and 1925 he made regular appearances at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and also gave guest appearances in Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. He was also engaged at the Manhattan Opera House in New York (1909-10), the Chicago Opera (1910-11 and 1920-25) and the Rome Opera (1910-25 and 1928-38). He was also successful as an interpreter of Wagner operas (including King Heinrich in Lohengrin , Wotan and Hagen in the Ring of the Nibelung , Marke in Tristan and Isolde and Gurnemanz in Parsifal ).

In 1939 De Angelis retired from the stage, but he occasionally appeared in concerts until 1959. He worked as a singing teacher in Milan and Rome and spent his twilight years in his hometown. He has made recordings from Fonotipia (1907-08), Odeon and Columbia (including the complete opera Mefistofele ).
