Ndey Conteh-Jallow

Ndey Isatou Conteh-Jallow (also: Ndey Conteh or Ndey Jallow , born in Bathurst in the 1940s or early 1950s , now Banjul ) is a Gambian entrepreneur.

Life

Conteh-Jallow was born in downtown Bathurst (now Banjul) at 13 Primet Street . She first attended the Muhammadan Lower Basic School and then the Gambia High School (now the Gambia Senior Secondary School ). She then trained as an accountant at the Government Clerical School (now the Gambia Technical Training Institute , GTTI) in 1970/1971 .

From 1971 to 1986 she worked in the Gambian Income Tax Office . After leaving the civil service, she founded N and J's Enterprise in Serrekunda , where she initially sold building materials, children's clothing and textiles. Later the business became a pure fashion boutique.

In 2002 she was one of the founders of the Taku Legaye Bu Ndey Conteh Skills Training Center in Bundung , which offers further training for young Gambian youth. From July 2007 she was General Secretary of the newly founded Alliance for Gambian Women in Business .

In 2009 she was elected President of the Gambian Section of the Federation of Business Women and Entrepreneurs of the West African Economic Community ECOWAS (ECOWAS-FEBWE), which represents women entrepreneurs in West Africa and supports them in setting up companies. She held the office until at least 2012.

In 2010 she was a founding member and first president of the Association for Gambian Women Empowerment (AGWE), which offers support in particular for smaller entrepreneurs in rural areas through microcredits and advice.

She was also a member of the Interim Management Committee of the Kanifing Municipal Council and Treasurer of the Gambia National Women Federation for a term .

In 2009 she was awarded the Order of the Republic of The Gambia by the Gambian President Yahya Jammeh at the member level .

family

Conteh-Jallow comes from an important Gambian family. She is the daughter of Fatou Sanneh Conteh and Alhagie / Alhaji Kebba Conteh (d. July / August 2001). Her father was a doctor at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (today Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital ), a pharmacist and around 1981 mayor of the Gambian capital Banjul and until January 2001 an alkalo of Bundung , a district of Kanifing Municipal . Her paternal grandfather was Bala Conteh, who was an alkalo there for more than 20 years.

Her siblings include Basirou Conteh, Momodou Conteh and the politician Abdoulie Conteh , long-time chairman of the Kanifing Municipal Council .

Conteh-Jallow got married and has at least one child.
