The cultural center with "cooling tower"

Ne'ot Semadar ( Hebrew נְאוֹת סְמָדַר, "Oasis of the Wine Blossom") is a kibbutz founded in 1989 in the Arava in the southern Negev of Israel. In 2018, 222 people lived there (families with children, singles and volunteers).

Ne'ot Semadar is located about 70 km north of Eilat on Highway 40. In this man-made oasis, vines, olives, date palms and fruit trees are grown on 5 hectares. There is a large herd of goats and the goat cheese made from goat milk is also marketed. The kibbutz is known for its high quality ecological products.

In the center of the oasis is the cultural center, conspicuous by its high tower, which serves to cool the air inside. There is a lake in the oasis and all water is recycled and reused. The architecture of the houses is adapted to the desert climate and also based on ecological criteria. Many houses, like the cultural center, have “cooling towers” to avoid electrical air conditioning.
