Nea Peramos ( Greek Νέα Πέραμος ( f. Sg. )) Is a Greek municipality in the region of East Macedonia and Thrace . It is the administrative seat of the municipality of Eleftheres . The municipality has 3532 inhabitants and consists of the town of Nea Peramos (3514 inhabitants) and the two southwestern towns of Agios Athanasios (13 inhabitants) and Agia Marina (5 inhabitants). The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and partly from tourism.
Nea Peramos is located on the bay of Eleftheres with the offshore islets of Petrani and Drogkos. 500 m south of the village is the Byzantine castle of Anaktoropolis and a little further west the ancient settlement of Oisyme . The Golden Beach stretches between Nea Peramos and Anaktoropolis . At the north end of town is the port of Eleftheres and the Institute for Fisheries Research. Ammolofi beach is located on the south coast of the city district and the Vrasidas peninsula, which was named after the Spartan general Brasidas , is to the southwest .
The city of Nea Peramos was only founded in 1922 by refugees from Peramos from the south coast of the Marmara Sea . It was initially called Kalia Tsiflik ( Greek Καλιά Τσιφλίκ ) and received its current name in 1925.
