Neal Jones (musician)

Neal Jones (born March 22, 1922 in Scotts Hill , Tennessee ) is an American country musician . Jones worked on at least eight different radio stations during his career.

Life

Born in Tennessee, Neal Jones began his career with WTJS in Jackson , Tennessee in 1940 . In the next few years he could be heard on various stations in Tennessee, including in Memphis on WMPS and WREC.

In 1955 Jones signed a young guitarist named Willie Nelson for the Musician's Union . Nelson was in the process of recording with Frankie Miller , but Nelson hadn't been to the Union yet. Jones also made his first recordings for Columbia Records in 1955 at Jim Beck's studio in Dallas , Texas . A total of eight singles were released, including Maybe Next Week Sometime , Play It Cool and Hot Jing Jolly . During this time, Jones also appeared on KTLA in Shreveport , Louisiana , and on various Texas networks.

Jones later made recordings for Starday Records and in 1961 for D Records .
