Nebahat Albayrak (2007)

Nebahat Albayrak (born April 10, 1968 in Şarkışla ) is a Dutch former politician of Turkish origin. From 2007 to 2010 she was State Secretary of Justice in the Balkenende IV cabinet .

education

In 1993, she earned a degree in International and European Law at the University of Leiden . As part of her graduation, she also attended lectures at Ankara University , the Institut d'Études Françaises and the Institut d'Études Politiques in Paris .

politics

Albayrak was from 1998 to 2007 a member of the Second Chamber of the States General for the PvdA ( Partij van de Arbeid ). On February 22, 2007, she was appointed State Secretary for Justice in the fourth cabinet of Prime Minister Balkenende . She and Ahmed Aboutaleb were the first Muslims in a Dutch cabinet. The right-wing Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) tried to prevent the inauguration of Albayrak and Aboutaleb. The party also tried to initiate a vote of no confidence in parliament , directed against all members of parliament and executive politicians who hold dual citizenship , claiming that these politicians gave the impression of lacking loyalty to the state. Albayrak has a Turkish and a Dutch passport . The motion was rejected by the Chamber because it was not supported by any party other than the PVV. Since May 12, 2010 she has been a member of the Second Chamber again. On September 20, 2012, she said goodbye as a member of parliament.
