Necronomicon (sometimes spelled NecronomicoN ) is a Canadian black and death metal band from Montreal that was formed in 1991.
history
The band was formed in 1991 and consisted of singer and guitarist Rob "The Witch" Tremblay, bassist Catherine and drummer Jean-Francois Boucher. Shortly afterwards, the group released their first demo Morbid Ritual . Due to several line-up changes to Tremblay, the release of the next sound carrier was delayed in 2006, which was the EP The Silver Key , which was produced by Pierre Rémillard and recorded in the Victory Studios . After that, the group played at various festivals, such as the Milwaukee Metalfest and the Montreal Metalfest , and also as the opening act for groups such as Mercyful Fate or Cradle of Filth . In 1999, the debut album Pharaoh of Gods , which was recorded at Peter Pan Studios , was released via Hypnotic Records . After the closure of Hynotic Records, the album was re-released in 2002 on Unique Leader Records . In the fall of 2002 the band went on tour through Canada with Kataklysm and Blood of Christ . The second album followed in 2003 under the name The Sacred Medicines . It wasn't until 2009 that the band went into the studio to record their next album, which was released as The Return of the Witch . The group now consisted of Tremblay, bassist Diego Rodriguez and drummer Rick. On the next album Rise of the Elder Ones , which was released in 2013 via Season of Mist , Armaros was included as the new bassist.
style
According to laut.de, the band play a mixture of black and death metal. Pharaoh of Gods offers Death Metal in the style of Morbid Angel . On The Sacred Medicines , Necronomicon has become more atmospheric and melodic without losing its Death. and having lost black metal roots. In his review in Metal Hammer to The Return of the Witch Thomas stated Strater that the bond between Acheron , Samael and Behemoth must be classified. The singing is harsh, but understandable. The riffs would range from "gloomy whirring to brutally whipping to thrashy excursions". In addition, the fast drumming with fast double bass and the "song-serving accents on the cymbals " are characteristic, which again reminds of Behemoth.
