Neersen (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The house Neersen (full name of the Neersen ) is the name of a knight dynasty from the Lower Rhine with the headquarters at Castle Neersen , which is documented from 1250 and held the bailiwicks of Neersen , Anrath and Uerdingen until 1487 .

The Latin spelling de Nersa or de Nyrsa can also be found in documents .

history

The family was first mentioned in a document with Heinrich (I) von der Neersen , who was named Henricus de Nersa in a document from the Gladbach Abbey in 1250 . In 1263 he is mentioned in a document as Vogt von Neersen ( vait van der Nersin ).

All ancestors of the family had the lead name Heinrich, which makes it difficult to differentiate them in old documents. They bore the hereditary title of bailiff (also Latinized as advocate ).

With Heinrich (VI.), Bailiff von der Neersen, the male line died out around 1487. Neersen Castle and the associated bailiwicks inherited from his brother-in-law Thonis von Palant , who married his sister Agnes von der Neersen († before 1488). Their only daughter Agnes von Palant († 1524) finally brought the inheritance through marriage to Ambrosius von Viermund in 1502 , who with her founded a Neersen line of the Viermund family .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Knights of Neersen

The coat of arms of the Ritter von der Neersen showed a cross-sectioned shield, the lower field red, the upper gold, on the helmet a golden dog with a red collar. Her successors as Lords von Neersen from the Viermund family included this coat of arms in theirs.
