Neil Clement (born October 3, 1978 in Reading ) is a retired English football player .

Career

As a teenager, Clement came to the Academy of Lilleshall because of his footballing talent . He later joined the English capital club Chelsea , where his professional career began. In 1996 he moved to the team's professional squad. On December 21 of the same year he made his Premier League debut in a 3-1 win over West Ham United . This should be his first and only use for a long time. In the 1997/98 season he remained without league use. In the following year he came to two short appearances in the league cup . In order to give him more practice, the club officials decided to loan Clement out. In November 1998 Reading FC finally secured the services of the defensive player. On November 21, he made his debut for the new club. A week later, Clement scored his first professional goal in a 2-1 win over Lincoln City . In February 1999 the loan business expired. However, Chelsea transferred him to Preston North End , where he should gain more experience. In his premiere game for Preston he received the red card and missed a good debut. For the 1999/00 season he wanted to attack the Blues again . He missed the breakthrough again and it came to the third loan deal. Between November 1999 and January 2000, Clement wore the jersey of Brentford FC , a third division club at the time . In March of the same year West Bromwich Albion Clement on loan . On March 25, he made his debut for the Baggies against Manchester City .

In the Football League First Division , the defender was the top performer of his new employer. He decided to sign him for 2000/01. Because of his good performances, the fans voted him “Player of the Season”. He was also voted into the "PFA Division One Team of the Year". At the end of the 2001/02 season, the team made it to the Premier League , but rose again the following year. But even in the relegation season, Clement was an important pillar of the team. 2003/04 was the second promotion in England's top division. In January 2005, Clement signed a new five and a half year contract. This year, the club's supporters voted him Player of the Year for the second time. After the end of the 2005/06 game year, the Baggies were relegated again. Clement then had a difficult year, playing only half of the competitive games and was sent off twice. West Brom made it into the play-off round, but failed at Derby County with 0-1. Clement was substituted on shortly before the end of this game. In late February 2008, the defensive player was loaned to Hull City . After only five games he returned and helped West Bromwich to return to the Premier League. Against the Queens Park Rangers , he played his 300th competitive game for Albion. By winning this game, the team secured the league win. In the preparatory game for the 2008/09 season, Clement suffered a serious knee injury and was out for the entire 2008/09 season. In January 2010 he ended his professional career due to a knee injury.
