Nejapa is a city and a municipality in El Salvador in Central America in the department of San Salvador and has 29,458 inhabitants (2007) on 83.36 km².

Culture

"Las Bolas de Fuego" ("The Fireballs") are celebrated every year on August 31st. There are two explanations for this tradition: The El Playon volcano , part of the Volcán de San Salvador , erupted in November 1658 and caused people to flee to the area of ​​what was then Nexapa . The religious version says that San Jeronimo , the city's patron saint, fought the devil with fireballs.
