The Nekromantix are a Danish - American psychobilly band that was founded in Copenhagen in 1989 .

Band history

founding

After eight years at sea in a submarine for the Royal Danish Navy , singer and bassist Kim Nekroman (real Dan Gaarde) tried to gain a foothold as a drummer in a rockabilly band before joining Psychobilly interested. He created his unmistakable coffin-shaped double bass (" coffin bass ") and brought the Nekromantix to life.

From 1989 to 2005 the line-up of guitar and drums changed several times; Before the current line-up, the positions were occupied by the brothers Peter (guitar) and Kristian (drums) Sandorff, from 2005 to 2007 Troy Destroy occupied the guitar and Wasted James from 2005 to 2006 the drums. When Andrew Martinez (Andy DeMize) died in a car accident in mid-January 2009, a new drummer had to come on board - Lux.

Ascent

The Nekromantix played at two smaller events in Copenhagen before they appeared at a large Psychobilly festival in Hamburg only six months after their founding . Through this gig they got the record deal for their first album, Hellbound . The band then toured massively across Europe. At the time, the Psychobilly scene was primarily dominated by British bands.

In 1991 the band recorded their second album, Curse of the Coffin . Single releases from this found their way into the program of the music channel MTV .

Further course of the career

Lead singer Kim Nekroman

The follow-up album Brought Back to Life from 1994 was the first Psychobilly album ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 2001 the band was signed by the music label Hellcat Records , whose owner, Tim Armstrong of the punk rock band Rancid , is an avowed fan of Nekromantix. Her fifth album (and her US debut), Return of the Loving Dead , was recorded in Los Angeles and released in 2002.

The sixth album, Dead Girls Don't Cry , was released in 2004 through Hellcat Records. The bass track and vocals for this were recorded by Nekroman in Los Angeles, guitar and drums by the Sandorff brothers in Denmark.

In April 2005, the Sandorff brothers parted with the Nekromantix on good terms. They were replaced by Troy Destroy and Wasted James, both of whom came from the California psychobilly band Rezurex . Drummer Wasted James also plays with the Tiger Army and has been on tour as a drummer with Nekromantix before. 2006 Wasted James was replaced by Andrew Martinez (stage name "Andy DeMize") from the Californian band The Rocketz. He died on January 11, 2009 as a result of a car accident in Fullerton, California .

In March 2007, the album Life Is a Grave & I Dig It! released.

Trivia

Kim Nekroman's "Coffinbass" went through several phases of development. Originally it was a stylized children's coffin, but the sound properties were poor because the body of the instrument was too small. Kim Nekroman developed several improved models. The current bass is collapsible for easier transportation.

Nekroman is married to Patricia Day, ex-guitarist of the Danish band Peanut Pump Gun . They play together in the horror pops .
