Li Curuneddi necropolis

The necropolis of Li Curuneddi is located near La Landrigga, west of Sassari in the province of Sassari in Sardinia . The necropolis is on a step in the terrain that the water has dug into the limestone surface of the Nurra .

The unique hypogeum was a necropolis in the late Neolithic with a no longer ascertainable number of Domus de Janas , most of which were destroyed or heavily changed. From many Domus de Janas, a rock church was built in Byzantine times , in which the original chambers merged into a single room, the ceiling of which is supported by columns left standing. The deep gaps and niches that have been preserved in the walls are probably remnants of the former design. In the following period, the hypogeum seems to have been used as a warehouse for wine. The two round tanks prove this.

The main hypogeum is on private land and is accessible. The important grave is at the foot of the embankment of Strada Provinciale ex-SS 291. The large portal, framed by special stone work, allows easy access. The typical niches of numerous domus can be seen on the right-hand side. A few steps lead down to the large (lower) room, where there are decorations and so many accessories that it gives the impression that the hypogeum was used for living purposes. On the wall in front of the portal there is a niche reminiscent of a sacrificial altar.

Nearby is the rock tomb of Molafa .
