Nemesis is a Swiss documentary film by Thomas Imbach from 2020 . The premiere took place in April 2020 in the Nyon Visions du Réel competition (online edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic ).
action
Nemesis is dedicated to the destruction of a unique train station in Zurich and the construction of a new prison and police center in its place. From the perspective of the filmmaker's window, accompanied by the statements of several deportation prisoners, the film examines how we deal with the erasure of history and its replacement by total security.
background
Nemesis was filmed exclusively from the filmmaker's window. Thomas Imbach's dismay at the painful death of the freight yard prompts him to record the ongoing destruction, the years of standstill and the creation of the new concrete colossus in order to compose a personal chronicle.
Reviews
Sennhauser Filmblog: "Thomas Imbach has once again succeeded in creating a documentary that is both personal and universal at the same time, combining social questions about urban development, dealing with other people and individual responsibility into an attractive stream of images and sound."
Pascal Blum, Tagesanzeiger: «His 'nemesis' is not just a filmed report for the social archive, but a cosmopolitan portrait from an internal perspective; at Imbach there is always both, the surprising image composition and the documentary observation. "
TAZ: "Imbach shot six and a half years, the team had to work on the assembly, the time-lapse and the sound design for a long time until the voyeuristic view of the narrowly limited terrain evolved into impressively multi-layered levels of reflection that often shine with Tatiesk comedy."
