Neolloydia matehualensis is a species of plant in the genus Neolloydia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet matehualensis means 'from the location near Matehuala in Mexico'.

description

Neolloydia matehualensis grows individually or forms loose cushions. The green-white shoots usually have whitish woolly apices and are spherical to cylindrical. Ribs are weak or absent. The cone-shaped warts are clearly pronounced. The mostly two central spines are black to reddish-brown, straight and slightly protruding. They are between 5 and 25 millimeters long. There are 10 radial spines.

The funnel-shaped flowers are purple, 2 to 3 centimeters long and 4 to 6 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Neolloydia matehualensis is widespread in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí south of Matehuala .

The first description was published in 1948 by Curt Backeberg .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
