Neolloydia is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors the botanist Francis Ernest Lloyd (1868–1947). The addition "Neo" was necessary because the name Lloydia was already given to a genus of the lily family (Liliaceae).

description

The small, low-growing species of the genus Neolloydia are solitary or form loose cushions. The slightly yellowish green shoots have for ordinary whitish wooly vertices and are spherical to cylindrical. With a diameter of 3 to 6 centimeters, they reach heights of growth of 5 to 24 centimeters. Ribs are weak or absent. The conical, 3 to 10 millimeters long and 6 to 10 millimeters wide warts, on the other hand, are clearly pronounced. The dimorphic areoles , 3 to 5 millimeters in diameter , are 8 to 12 millimeters apart and have an areolar furrow. The 1 to 2 (rarely up to 6) central spines , which can also be missing, are variable, black to reddish-brown, straight and upright. They are between 5 and 25 millimeters long. The radiant, straight radial spines are all white or whitish with a dark tip and reach a length of 5 to 7 millimeters.

The rather small, funnel-shaped flowers are purple, 2 to 3 inches long with a diameter of 4 to 6 inches. Your flower cup is bare.

The round, green, later turning greenish-brown fruits are bare, do not tear and have a diameter of 4 to 5 millimeters. They contain black, pear-shaped, waxed seeds .
