Neri Parenti

Neri Parenti (born April 26, 1950 in Florence ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Parenti graduated with a degree in political science . From 1972 he worked as an assistant director and was often professionally connected to Pasquale Festa Campanile , but also worked for Salvatore Samperi , Steno and Giorgio Capitani . In 1979 he switched to the director's chair and presented his debut work, John Travolto ... da un insolito destino , who parodied and imitated Just Saturday Night . Parenti soon became Paolo Villaggio's regular director , whom he won through the film series around “Fantozzi” (seven films as “Giandomenico Fracchia”), the “Scuola di ladri” (two films) and in the long “Natale” series (eleven films from 2005 to 2011, with Christian De Sica ) accompanied and led. The extremely great joint success in and with these films in Italy (but hardly outside of it) made both Parenti and Villaggio believable in hardly any other than the stereotyped form. Some of these serious attempts are therefore considered underrated.

Parenti's style shows his fascination for American silent film comedians and vocal and destructive gags. Some anti-clerical jokes in his films nearly led to Parentis being excommunicated twice.
