Pasquale Festa Campanile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pasquale Festa Campanile (born July 28, 1927 in Melfi , Basilicata , † February 12, 1986 in Rome ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and writer .

Life

Festa Campanile, coming from a noble family, began working as a screenwriter for some works of Neoralismo rosa in 1949 , but was soon scripting - almost always in a team with Massimo Franciosa - for directors such as Mauro Bolognini , Dino Risi , Marco Ferreri or Luchino Visconti . He has appeared in numerous important Italian films such as The Leopard , Do you trust Alfredo to murder? or The Four Days of Naples - for which he was nominated for an Oscar - involved.

In 1963 he turned to directing himself; his debut Un tentativo sentimentale left critics perplexed. His next film but one, the costume comedy Le voci bianche , already showed his turn to more commercial subjects. Up until his last film, he almost exclusively directed comedies , often with erotic themes.

In addition to his films, Festa Campanile worked as a writer. After working as a journalist and literary critic in Rome in the 1950s - before turning to film - his first work La nonna Sabella (German: Grandmother Sabella ) was published in 1957, which was made into a film by Giovanni Risi in the same year . From the mid-1970s, more novels appeared. In 1984 he received the Premio Campiello for Per amore, solo per amore ; 1986 the Premio Bancarella for La strega innamorata .
