The Naked Cello (Il merlo maschio) is an Italian adult comedy from 1971 starring Lando Buzzanca and Laura Antonelli . First shown in German-speaking countries in May 1975, the film was also marketed as a comedy in Po major .
action
Niccolò Vivaldi is a cellist in Verona . Whether inside the philharmonic orchestra or on the street, the man suffers from his inconspicuousness. He is always overlooked by everyone around him and his career does not advance. One day he photographs his beautiful, somewhat naive wife Costanza in revealing poses and shows the photos to his best friend Cavalmoretti. He soon caught the attention of the whole orchestra with the photos.
One day when he accompanies Costanza for a medical examination, he instructs her, for no apparent reason, to get completely free; the doctors pat him on the back. As a result, he is getting her to undress in public more and more often. Niccolò's candaulism , the urge to attract attention with Costanza's physical stimuli, develops into an obsession. At a performance of the opera Aida , Costanza is among the choristers. In the middle of the performance she takes off her clothes in front of a large audience and stands stark naked on the stage. Niccolò is admitted to a psychiatric clinic.

criticism
The lexicon of international films is of the opinion that comedy is only "dull erotic cinema".
