Franco Rossi

Franco Rossi (born April 28, 1919 in Florence , † June 5, 2000 in Rome ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

A lawyer by training, Rossi took his first steps in the media world directly after the Second World War with the radio. After a short theatrical experience, he turned to film. As an assistant director he worked under well-known directors such as Mario Camerini , Luis Trenker and Renato Castellani .

His first film, Fälscher ( I falsari , 1950), like the others, also based on his own script, reveals his artistic influence in the years of neorealism . His first major success was Il seduttore (1954) with Alberto Sordi . His best-known films include Friends for Life (1955) and Two Missionaries (1974) with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill . The midlife crisis films Die nackte Odyssey (1960) and Smog (1961) became autobiographical studies . He also contributed to some episode films.

Since the 1960s Rossi also worked for television, where he devoted himself to classical and religious subjects in a special way. The two German-Italian multi-part series Die Odyssey ('1968) and The Aeneis (1971) are among the early productions . His last television film was Cry for Help (1994) with Silvio Orlando and Désirée Nosbusch .
