Friedrich Schonhofen

Friedrich Already Hofen (* 22. September 1921 in Hille , † 3. July 1984 in Minden ) was a German politician of the SPD and trade union official.

Life and work

Schonhofen completed his school education in 1937 with the secondary school leaving certificate and was an apprentice in the railway service from 1937 to 1939. From 1940 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a conscript soldier . After the end of the war, Schonhofen was employed in the railway service until 1948.

Friedrich Schonhofen was married and had a daughter.

From 1948 to 1965 Friedrich Schonhofen was managing director of the German Railway Workers Union in Minden. After the Second World War, Minden was an important location for the Deutsche Bahn as the seat of a Federal Railway Central Office .

From 1952 to 1965 Schonhofen was a member of the Minden City Council for the SPD and was temporarily chairman of his parliamentary group . It was during this time that the SPD in Minden rose to become the dominant political force in the city of Minden.

From 1962 to 1975 Friedrich Schonhofen was a member of the district council of the former Minden district for the SPD .

In the 1965 federal election , Friedrich Schonhofen was elected directly to the German Bundestag in the Minden constituency, he was the successor to Paul Bleiß (SPD). In the Bundestag elections in 1969 and 1972 he was able to successfully defend his direct mandate. The political focus of Friedrich Schonhofen in the German Bundestag was transport policy and agricultural social policy. After the federal election in 1976, in which he had not run again for health reasons, Schonhofen left the Bundestag, his successor in direct mandate was Lothar Ibrügger (SPD).

From 1962 to 1964 Friedrich Schonhofen was deputy district administrator of the then Minden district and from 1964 to 1966 district administrator. Shortly after his election to the German Bundestag , he gave up this honorary position.
