Nesocodon mauritianus is the only species from the genus Nesocodon in the bellflower family(Campanulaceae). It occurs in Mauritius .

description

Nesocodon mauritianus is a shrub whose leaves are crowded at the top of the branches. The large flowers stand individually in the armpits, are stalked and drooping. The crown is bell-shaped, pale blue in color and marked with a darker vein. The corolla lobes are significantly shorter than the corolla tube. The stamens stand apart from each other, lie on the crown and do not protrude beyond it. The anthers are slightly shorter than the stamens . The ovary is triple and covered with five scarlet, elliptical nectaries , which are offset to the stamens.

The fruit is a laterally cracked capsule with three compartments.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.
