Nestor Schaffers

Nestor Schaffers (* 1826 in Liège ; † 1896 in Ghent ) was a Belgian landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School and a photographer .

Schaffers initially studied in Antwerp and from 1846 to 1848 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he was a student in Johann Wilhelm Schirmer's landscape class . From 1848 to 1862 he lived in Barbizon , where he became familiar with the painting of the Barbizon School . He also traveled to Switzerland . From 1862 until his death he lived in Ghent. In this city he ran a photography studio . Schaffers was a founding member of the Association Belge de Photographie .
