New America (Schlettau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New America is the name of a group of houses belonging to Schlettau on Bundesstrasse 101 between Schlettau and Annaberg-Buchholz . It lies on the watershed between the Zschopau and Sehma rivers in the Ore Mountains .

The name has been used since the late 19th century .

Originally only the former Köhlergut was named that way because, according to legend, an Ore mountain man wanted to emigrate to America. In Hamburg , however, he was so homesick that he returned to his home in the Ore Mountains and settled in the Köhlergut. It has been called New America ever since. The street inn later took this name.

Immediately in New America, the Fürstenweg (correctly Firstenweg) and the aforementioned federal road intersect from Frohnau in the north on the ridge to Neudorf in the south.

Not to be confused with America , a district of Penig .
