The Neuberg is a 418-meter-high mountain in the 19th Vienna district Döbling .

geography

The Neuberg lies east of the Dreimarkstein on the border of the two districts Obersievering and Salmannsdorf . The mountain lies in a north-eastern extension of the Eastern Alps and is geologically part of the flysch zone , which is composed of sandstone , marl and claystone .

history

Originally only the lower slopes and the slightly higher Ried Mitterbergen were used for wine growing. The mountain was first mentioned in a document in 1299 in connection with a vineyard. The name therefore comes from the newly cleared land that was reclaimed for viticulture . Even today the long southern slope is covered by vineyards.
