The Neuberg tunnel is a 1946 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg in the Lower Franconian municipality of Margetshöchheim . It crosses under the Neuberg and therefore bears his name.

course

The route runs in a southerly direction in large parts of the tunnel in a left curve with a radius of 7000 m . The south portal lies in a straight line. The gradient drops towards Würzburg continuously with 12.5 per thousand.

The Neuberg transfer point is located at the south portal of the tunnel . Both of its northern turnouts are in the tunnel, the two southern ones are in front of the south portal.

To the north of the structure is the 71 m long Bärntalbrücke and the Eichelberg tunnel . The Veitshöchheim bridge over the Main Valley follows to the south .

history

According to the planning status from the end of 1977, a 1946 m long tunnel inclined continuously to the south at 12.5 per thousand was planned. In contrast to the route implemented later, however, an almost continuous left curve with a radius of 10,000 m to the south was planned.

Preparatory work for the tunnel began in October 1983. The planned length was 1934 m.

In the planning and construction phase, the tunnel was between 302 and 304 kilometers .

The tunnel was put into operation at the end of May 1988 with the southern section of the new line.

Early October 2010 came the busy traveler with 600 ICE 783 en route from Hamburg to Munich in a tunnel after a person he two kilometers previously recorded had. After just under four hours, the travelers had switched to a replacement train.

technology

In the tunnel, the two main signals covering the Neuberg transfer point from the north and two block markers to the north are located.
