Neuchatel is a place and township in the northeast of the US state of Kansas and in the southwest of Nemaha County . It is located south of the confluence of the Mulberry Creek and French Creek.

history

In 1850 the Swiss Bonjour family emigrated from Lignières in the canton of Neuchâtel to the USA . In the spring of 1857, she established a settlement in Nehama County. The first schoolhouse was built sometime between 1857 and 1866, the first church in 1871 and with the opening of a post office in 1861, the settlement was given its current name Neuchatel in memory of the city of Neuchâtel ( French : Neuchâtel ) in its former home. In 1905 the church was renovated and was used until 1952. On the morning of April 21, 1994, the church was struck by lightning, causing it to burn down completely.

population

In 1878 Neuchatel had 392 inhabitants. In 2000 the population had reduced to 117 people, the mean age of men being 42.3 and that of women 48.5 years. 99.1% of the population is white and 0.9% is black (one person).
