history

The publicist Gerhard Giese founded the tabloid-style Catholic weekly newspaper with Wilhelm Adelmann in 1951 in Bödefeld in the Sauerland . The weekly magazine had a circulation of 386,000 to 420,000 copies by 1965. At that time, 160,000 copies of the magazine were sold in or in front of churches, which was controversial.

The Catholic priest and journalist Winfried Pietrek , known as the “Bildpost-Pfarrer”, worked for the weekly magazine for a long time.

At the end of 1978 the Neue Bildpost had a circulation of 227,000 copies. In 1991 the founders sold the newspaper. The Liborius publishing group acquired the weekly newspaper in 1997 and sold it to the diocese of Augsburg in 2008.

The circulation fell to 102,000 copies by the end of 1992. In the fourth quarter of 2002, 32,800 copies were sold.
