The Cabana district is located in the Lucanas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​405 km². The 2017 census counted 2193 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was 1,538, in 2007 the 3,252th seat of the district administration is the 3282  m Town hilltop Cabana Sur (or short: Cabana) with 1,892 inhabitants (2017). Cabana Sur is 48 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Puquio .

Geographical location

The Cabana district is located in the Andean highlands in the central northeast of the Lucanas province. The Río Sondondo (also Río Lucanas) crosses the far east of the district in a northerly direction and drains the area.

The Cabana District is bordered to the west by the district Lucanas , on the north by the district Aucara , in the far east to the district Huacana ( province of Sucre ), in the extreme southeast of the district Chipao and the south by the district Carmen Salcedo .
