New partnership for Africa's development

The New Partnership for Africa's Development or NEPAD ( New Partnership for Africa's Development ) is an economic development program of the African Union with its administrative headquarters in Midrand in South Africa . NEPAD was in July 2001 during the 37th meeting of the Heads of State and Government in Lusaka ( Zambia accepted) by decision.

The task of NEPAD is to set the framework for socio-economic developments and to monitor their implementation within the African Union. The program is active in the following areas:

  • Agriculture and Food Security
  • Climate Change and Natural Resource Management
  • regional integration and infrastructure
  • Securing living standards
  • Economic and corporate management
  • Horizontal cooperation .

NEPAD is an amalgamation of the Millennium Partnership for the African Recovery Program (MAP) and the OMEGA Plan for Africa . The merger was reached on July 3, 2001. The New Africa Initiative (NAI; German : "New Africa Initiative") emerged from the merger . The heads of state and government of the Organization for African Unity (OAU) confirmed NAI on July 11, 2001. The heads of state and government of the G8 confirmed the plan on July 20, 2001. The Heads of State Implementation Committee (HSIC; German: “Realisierungsausschuss The Heads of State ”) completed the political framework on October 23, 2001 and NEPAD was thus created.

Former Nigerien Prime Minister Ibrahim Hassane Mayaki has been CEO of NEPAD since 2010 .
