New England (Westerstede)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New England is a district of Westerstede , the district town of the Lower Saxon district of Ammerland . It is located in the north-west of the municipality and, together with Kielburg, forms a peasantry, which in 2011 had around 170 inhabitants.

history

The village is mentioned for the first time as New Engeland in the Vogteikarte from 1793. A Johann Abot with his house was also marked here, who is said to have originally been an English officer and who later changed his name to Alberts. There are two different traditional memories about this. In another interpretation, it was assumed that New England was named after the settlement of the narrow country on the edge of the former swamp and raised bog area.
