Garnholt (also called Groß-Garnholt ) is a district of Westerstede , the district town of the Lower Saxon district of Ammerland .

geography

Garnholt is east of Westerstede and borders Wiefelstede in the northeast and Bad Zwischenahn in the southeast . The Garnholter Büsche , the largest contiguous forest area in the municipality of Westerstede, are located near Garnholt . The Highway 28 separates the place of small Garnholt that the peasantry Elmendorf belongs. Garnholt is still a scattered settlement without a real town center.

history

Garnholt was first mentioned in a document in 1292 in the chronicle of the Rastede monastery . There three farms are named, which are subject to a fee of the monastery . 1428 will be in stock book Drosten Jacob from the Specken in Garnholt four home sites mentioned, as in Oldenburg Contributionsregister of 1679. Köter- or Heuer places there were none. Garnholt was not settled more intensively until the 19th century. The first houses in Garnholterfeld are mentioned from 1815 . In 1874, the brickworks owner August Lauw acquired one of the four farms, had it demolished at its original location and rebuilt as Gut Groß Garnholt amid his Garnholt lands .

Garnholt is connected to public transport by line 355 (Garnholterdamm – Westerstede) of the Weser-Ems Bus and line 5 of the Westersteder Citizens' Bus Association . There is no connection to the Autobahn 28 in the south of Garnholt.

personality

In 1832 the astronomer Friedrich Tietjen , who was director of the Astronomical Computing Institute from 1874 , was born as the son of a househusband in Garnholt.
