Location of Halsbek in Lower Saxony

Halsbek is a district of Westerstede , the district town of the Lower Saxon district of Ammerland and is located about 8 km north of the city center on the border with the district of Friesland . The localities of Hoheliet and Kielburg also belong to the administrative district of Halsbek .

history

Halsbek is an old Eschdorf and was first mentioned in a document in 1428. In the Oldenburg Contribution Register of 1679, four househusband and nine mutt positions are mentioned here , as well as three hiring men .

In the Middle Ages, Halsbek was on the border with the Frisian Wehde . To protect against raids by the Frisians , a Landwehr was built to the north , although it lost its importance when the Wehde fell to the Counts of Oldenburg in the middle of the 15th century . In the Middle Ages the only road in the village was the connection from Kielburg to Neuchâtel .

The formerly rural structure of Halsbeck changed in the course of the last century to a closed residential area. Commercial businesses and tree nurseries typical of the Ammerland settled on parts of the previously purely agricultural areas . The infrastructure of the village grew with the population . The elementary school in Halsbek, founded in 1720, now serves as a primary school for Halsbek and the surrounding villages. On May 10, 1959, the Christ Church of the Protestant parish of the city of Westerstede in Halsbek was consecrated. A cemetery is attached to the church.

Halsbek took part in the competition Our village has a future several times . In 2004 the village was the Lower Saxony state winner and received the silver medal at the federal level. In 2011, Halsbek was the winner in the district competition.
