Hollwege is a district of Westerstede , the district town of the Lower Saxon district of Ammerland . It is located in the northwest of the municipality and had about 530 inhabitants in 2011. To the west of Hollwegerfeld is the Hollweger Moor , which has been a nature reserve since 1991.

history

Hollwege is mentioned for the first time in a document without any doubt in 1107 in a document from the Corvey monastery as Holewide in Ammeren . In the 1970s a deed of 872 with Holanwide was mistakenly related to the village. However, this is a submerged place near Goldenstedt in the Vechta district. Nonetheless, the relationship with the Corvey Monastery suggests that the village was founded earlier, as this monastery held the tenth of the entire Ammerland from 855 onwards. a. was confirmed in 983.

Like many other villages in the region, Hollwege also emerged as Eschdorf . Since it is surrounded on almost all sides by forest and lowlands, which were often under water, it was almost cut off from its neighbors in terms of traffic. There were only two relatively dry paths: the so-called Mühlenweg , via which the farmers brought their grain via Felde to the Bannmühle in Burgforde , and the path known as the Totenweg , which led via Halstrup to Westerstede. The relative isolation of Hollweges also had the effect that the village was spared from the attacks of the East Frisians on Westerstede and the surrounding villages in the Middle Ages. Of particular location, the name probably derives from: Holl for low and paths or wede for Forest.

Of the total of eleven Hausmann positions in Hollwege, nine are already listed in 1428 in the Oldenburg camp book of Oldenburg Drosten Jacob von der Specken, two more are mentioned for the first time in 1530 and 1581. Many of the 26 mutt sites mentioned up to the year 1700 were first mentioned in 1581. The meadows and forests in the neighboring villages of Moorburg and Felde also belonged to the Hollweger farmers.

The first school in Hollwege was founded in 1714.
