Halstrup is a typical Eschdorf for the region and is located on a hill that was once surrounded by a raised bog that was dug up over time by the Halstrup farmers and converted into pastureland. The path called Totenweg , which connected the neighboring Hollweg with Westerstede, ran through the village . Halstrup is mentioned for the first time in a document as Halstorpe , but as with the other Esch villages in the Ammerland and its surroundings, settlement should have already begun.

The Oldenburg Contributionenregister recorded in 1679 Halstrup five Hausmann- , fifteen Köter- and five Heuer points .
