Elmendorf is a district of the Lower Saxony municipality of Bad Zwischenahn in the Ammerland district and is located on the northwestern shore of the Zwischenahner Sea . The peasantry itself includes next Elmendorf nor the villages Langebrügge , Willbroksmoor and small Garnholt . The Stamers Hop nature reserve is located directly on the Zwischenahner Meer .

history

The name Elmendorf probably goes back to Egilmar I (also called Elimar ), who had a hill moth ( Elmendorf Castle ) built in today's Dreibergen , which at that time still belonged to Elmendorf, directly on the Zwischenahner Meer . The area was then named after him Elimarsdorf . Gut Blexhaus is located in Elmendorf and served as a post office on the Poststrasse to Holland until 1843, when the postal service was handled via Zwischenahn . It got its name from Gerd Blexen, who lived there around 1500 . The Klein-Garnholt estate was also located on Poststrasse , and on September 28, 1331, the Knight Dietrich von Elmendorf passed into the possession of the Counts of Oldenburg. The family name Garnholz , which is well-known in the area, is derived from this property: around 1456, the then Meier von Garnholt took over the name. Small and large Garnholt are separated by the Heller bushes . The municipal boundary to Westerstede , to which Groß-Garnholt belongs today, also runs here.

Langebrugge lies between Elmendorf and Klein-Garnholt. It got its name because it was built as a "bridge" to the Mansier Esch. As in many other places in the Ammerland, the soil conditions were very boggy. In order to still make the moor accessible, bushes were bundled and placed close together on the soft subsoil. In this way a bridge to the Esch was obtained, a very long one in Langebrugge.

Langebrugge was then part of the moor, which today forms the north-western border to Westerstede as Willbroksmoor. Like all other moor areas in the Ammerland district that are no longer active, this area offers excellent soil properties for tree nurseries. Tree nurseries have also become a natural sight in Wilbroksmoor and shape the landscape of the Bad Zwischenahn community.

education

Elementary school Elmendorf / Aschhausen

1637 a school in Elmendorf was first mentioned that until 1972 in different buildings than Mittelpunktschule was performed. At the beginning of the school year 1971/1972 the school Elmendorf was organizationally with the school Aschhausen for primary school Elmendorf / Aschhausen merged, the name in the future Erwin Roeske school should carry.

Former school in Langebrugge

Between 1907 and 1968 there was a second school location in Langebrugge, which was supposed to relieve the overcrowded Elmendorf school. For this purpose, a new building for a single-class school with a teacher's apartment was built on Langebrügger Straße.

During the Second World War , from 1941 - the headmaster had been drafted for military service - the pupils were only taught every other day in Gießelhorst in the neighboring community of Westerstede . Even after the war there were initially no classes in Langebrugge because the school building was occupied by Canadian soldiers.

Schools in Langebrugge could not be resumed until 1947, until it was decided in 1967 to close the site at the end of the 1967/1968 school year. Since then, the Langebrugger pupils have been attending the Elmendorf / Aschhausen primary school again.

traffic

Elmendorf is bounded to the north by Autobahn 28 , but does not have its own junction. It can be reached from the west via the Bad Zwischenahn West exit and from the east via the Zwischenahner Meer exit .

Lines 350 (Westerstede – Bad Zwischenahn– Oldenburg ) and 370 ( Rastede –Bad Zwischenahn) of the Bremen-Lower Saxony transport association as well as several school bus routes connect Elmendorf to the local public transport system .

In Elmendorf, the district of Ammerland has a fire service center , and until mid-2012 also a fire service and rescue control center .
