New day in Pankow -

New day in Pankow is the album produced in the 30th year of Pankow 's existence and released on Buschfunk .

History of origin

The album was recorded at various locations from April to September 2011 and brought live to the stage on the band's 30th anniversary on a tour through East Germany in late 2011.

Music style and reception

From the description of the Buschfunk label:

“The album title and song Neuer Tag in Pankow was of course not chosen without intention. With him PANKOW very consciously borrows from early band years and songs. All in all: no uproar in the eyes, but also no boredom, no recapitulation, but instead some musically and lyrically very successful replicas of and playing with their own (band) history. Cool riffs, rough poetry and the usual brash and intense chants are taken care of again. Rock 'n' Roll in German, matured with life and experience, thoroughly disillusioned, but gripping and feeling as well as teasing many a sting. A rare stroke of luck that deserves recognition, is fun and yet takes us seriously (enough). "

- Bush radio

In the first reviews and concert reports, the new album is described as a reference to the best Pankow times.

With texts between prosperity, globalization and insurrection, Pankow has finally arrived in the world of the 21st century:

"The winter was cold / now it's finished and old / wind comes from the south / no longer freezes over the sea
and everything will be new / it will be may again / turn on the news / something has finally happened in the world
get up, go outside / there are no better times
and the clouds are moving / over berlin / you ask questions you stand across / you can't be heard that high up
and now look at you / it's your turn today / open your windows wide / when spring is coming throw the old dirt out
get up, go out / there are no better times "

- Excerpt There are no better times

without losing your own identity.

With the last track on the album Take W , the French composer and musician Jean Pacalet , who died on July 7th 2011, sends a final greeting in memory of joint projects with Pankow.
