News from Waldhagen

News from Waldhagen was a school radio series that was broadcast by NDR from 1955 to 1985 . The aim was a kind of “community studies for beginners” and the target group were children from 4th to 6th grade. Booklets containing additional information for teachers were published every six months for the programs.

history

The first broadcast took place on November 11, 1955 by the NWDR (later NDR); the programs were between 20 and 30 minutes long. The inventor, editor and until 1978 director of the series was Gernot Weitzl . The show's authors included Charlotte Drews-Bernstein and Tilly Hütter . In March 1985, the program was discontinued after 318 episodes.

In addition to the narrator Heinz Reincke and Günter Willumeit , the spokesman for the main character Bauer Piepenbrink, many actors from the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater could be heard, among them Heidi Kabel (Emma Piepenbrink), Rudolf Beiswanger (Paul Piepenbrink), Otto Lüthje (village shoemaker Emil Ziesemann) , Aline Bußmann (Käthe Ziesemann), Henry Vahl (Grandpa Negenborn), Heinz Lanker (Eduard Grothe), Hilde Sicks (Anna Grothe - together with husband Eduard: innkeepers of the village inn Zum fetten Ochsen ), Karl-Heinz Kreienbaum (country doctor Dr. Kraus ) and Carl Voscherau (Mayor Ludwig Kienappel).

Content

In the first broadcast, the fictional place "Waldhagen" was presented with its typical characters. The following appeared: the mayor, the landlord from the “Zum Fetten Ochsen” inn, the doctor and a village policeman. Furthermore, farmers and their wives, grandparents and children with different temperaments. As in Lindenstrasse or other television soaps later, the audience was able to follow the fate of the characters over the years.
