The New Year's screaming (in dialect: s'Nuijohrschreie) is a traditional custom to the New Year , the most in the Allgäu , Lower Bavaria and South Tyrol is widespread.

On New Year's morning, especially in the Ostallgäu, in the Pfronten , Eisenberg , Nesselwang and Wald area, the children go from house to house and wish the neighborhood a Happy New Year and say a New Year's saying that can vary from place to place. In some localities a new saying is written for every new year.

As a thank you for the good wishes, the children used to get a piece of fruit - apples or dried pears - and two or three pfennigs ( A Batzele ) for the - mostly self-made - money bag. Even today, the children are rewarded with a small amount of money between 50 cents and one euro. Often the children are given sweets or homemade loafs . The New Year shouting is traditionally carried out by children up to the 9th grade and ends before 12 noon.
