Neukirchen am Simssee is a district of the municipality of Riedering in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim . The formerly independent municipality of Neukirchen am Simssee was incorporated into the municipality of Riedering during the Bavarian municipal reform on May 1, 1978 .

Geographical location

The village is in an idyllic altitude above the east bank of the Simssees .

history

The church village was first mentioned as Niuunchircha in 924 and until 1950 consisted only of a church, sacristan house and school.

Neukirchen is known far beyond the Chiemgau through the Maria Stern church . This branch and pilgrimage church should have existed as early as the 9th century and was rebuilt around 1450. In 1710 the solemn transfer of the miraculous image of Maria Stern (from the parish church in Riedering) to Neukirchen took place. In 1716 the church was extended, rebuilt and baroque in 1750 . There are delicate stucco decorations by A. Vordermayr, ceiling paintings by JA Mölck and early Rococo altars by JA Hötinger.

Also noteworthy is a local legend according to which, when today's church was rebuilt, the construction site was indicated by a bird with a bloody chip in its beak. This local peculiarity is represented by the former municipal coat of arms with the star as a symbol of Mary in the upper half of the shield and with a stylized bird below. The wave division as a water symbol is reminiscent of the location on Simssee.
