The Neuwieser See , in Upper Sorbian Nowołučanski jězor , is part of the Lusatian Lake District and is located on its Saxon side in the Bautzen district . It is located south of the town of Partwitz on the site of the former Bluno opencast mine. After completion of the flooding process, the lake will have a water surface of approximately 630 hectares and a max. Have water depth of 17 meters.
To the west of the lake is the Partwitzer See , to the north the Blunoer Südsee and to the east the Bergener See . As part of an extensive touristic development program, a total of 10 of the lakes in the chain of lakes are to be connected by 13 canals over the next few years. The Neuwieser See is to be connected to all three adjacent lakes.
A bathing beach is also to be built on the eastern edge of the lake. However, large areas are subject to nature conservation. The part of the former mining site to the north-east of the lake is withdrawn from human intervention in recultivation as a process protection area.
