Neville V. Smith

Neville V. Smith (born April 21, 1942 in Leeds , † August 18, 2006 ) was a British physicist .

Smith received his BA from Cambridge University in 1963 and devoted himself to research into the optical properties of liquid metals. He received his PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory in 1967 . In 1969 Smith moved to Bell Laboratories and was a pioneer in the field of spectroscopy . In 1980 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society and in 1994 program director of the Advanced Light Source (ALS) at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory .
