The New Cut is a canal in the River Thames at Old Windsor in Berkshire , England . The canal was built when the Old Windsor Lock , which is at the southern end of the canal, was built in 1822. Ham Island was created through its construction . A weir in the natural course of the river turns the New Cut into a shipping route.
