New music was an English synth-pop - music band of the late 1970s and early 1980s years, led by songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tony Mansfield . The band was not very successful commercially, although their single Living by Numbers reached # 13 on the UK charts and made several appearances on Top of the Pops .

The band recorded three albums that were stylistically somewhere between Kraftwerk , The Cars , The Korgis , Tears for Fears and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark . What was remarkable was the combination of rhythm machines and synthesizers with natural instruments, which in the days of analog studios required considerable production engineering effort.

Her debut album From A to B (1980) reached number 30 in the UK charts and led to 4 single releases ( Straight Lines , Living by Numbers , Sanctuary and This World of Water ).

The second album Anywhere (1981) only reached number 69 on the UK charts. Singles were Luxury and While You Wait - both of which did not reach the chart. Nevertheless, the album enjoyed a certain status among hi-fi enthusiasts in Germany at that time, as the beginning of the first track They All Run After the Carving Knife at that time pushed the limits of analog playback devices to the limit.

The third and final album Warp (1982) was a little less accessible than the two predecessors and did not reach the chart, possibly because the hit song Hunting was not released, but which ensured full dance floors in the discos.
