New Stratos at the Geneva Motor Show 2019

The New Stratos is a sports car that was developed by German entrepreneur Michael Stoschek as a throwback to the Lancia Stratos HF . It is built at Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) in Italy .

history

After no new edition of the Stratos was planned by Lancia , the German entrepreneur Michael Stoschek commissioned a New Stratos based on the Ferrari 430 Scuderia from Pininfarina in autumn 2008 . On December 13, 2010, the New Stratos was presented to the public on the Circuit Paul Ricard race track in France . Almost all elements of the base vehicle have been modified or adapted to meet the requirements. A planned small series initially failed at Ferrari at the end of 2010 . Despite negotiations with other small series manufacturers, the model remained a one-off until 2018.

A production model was only shown at the 88th Geneva Motor Show in March 2018. The series is limited to 25 vehicles and, like the Apollo IE, will be built by the Italian company MAT. MAT was founded in 2014 by Paolo Garella , who was instrumental in the development of the New Stratos at Pininfarina. On the basic platform, the vehicle is created as a GT racing car, a safari version and a super sports car. The first vehicle is due to be delivered in April 2018.

technology

Like the Lancia Stratos HF, the New Stratos has a very short wheelbase and is said to be extremely agile thanks to the combination of its low weight. Like the original from the 1970s, it also has a mid-engine . The chassis is 20 cm shorter than that of the basic model and made of extruded aluminum profiles. It is connected to a steel roll cage. With 44 percent at the front and 56 percent at the rear, the weight distribution of the New Stratos is almost balanced.

The body and interior are made almost exclusively from carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum. The drag area of the vehicle at 140 km / h is 0.738 m² (with a drag coefficient (c w ) of 0.357 and a cross-sectional area of 2.07 m²)

The New Stratos weighs 1247 kg dry, which is less than the Ferrari base model. 19-inch wheels with central locking - as known from racing - with tires measuring 265/30 at the front and 315/30 at the rear emphasize the wedge-shaped appearance of the New Stratos. A brake system with ceramic discs from Brembo is used for deceleration. On the steering wheel, the damping of the chassis - which has been newly tuned compared to the Ferrari - can be adjusted electronically.

The steering has an electro-hydraulic servo. The gearshift paddles of the Ferrari 430 racing version are used. LEDs in the steering wheel show the driver the optimal shift points. Gear changes are possible in less than 60 milliseconds. The Ferrari's six-speed gearbox was fitted with a mechanical differential lock. The New Stratos has the 4.3 liter V-8 engine of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia instead of the Ferrari Dino 246 GT engine of the original Stratos. By modifying the control unit and a sports exhaust system with manifolds and sports catalytic converters, the output has been increased to 397 kW (540 hp) and the torque is specified as 519 Nm. Two tanks in the middle of the vehicle on the right and left together hold 180 liters of fuel. The New Stratos should accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds and to 200 km / h in 9.7 seconds. The maximum speed is specified with 274 km / h to 330 km / h.
