The Newhalen River is a river in southwest Alaska , west of the northern Aleutian chain .
The 40 km long river forms the outflow of Sixmile Lake , which in turn is fed by Lake Clark . The Newhalen River flows mainly in a southerly direction and flows into Iliamna Lake near the village of Newhalen . The catchment area covers more than 8,830 km². The mean discharge is 365 m³ / s. In the months of July to September, when the snow and glaciers melt, the river carries the highest drainage.
