Ezechoa "Eucharia" Ngozi Uche (born June 18, 1973 in Ahiazu Mbaise , Imo , Nigeria ) is a former Nigerian soccer player and coach.

Career

Uch played Owerri while studying for Egbu Girls Secondary School and at Delta State University in between. From 1991 to 2000 she played in the Nigerian first division for Princess Jegede.

International

Uche took part in the first two women's World Cup tournaments with the Nigerian women's national team in 1991 and 1995 , but was only used in 1991.

As a trainer

Since 2009 she has been the first woman to train the Nigerian national soccer team . As one of the first official acts, she expelled lesbian players from the national team. She won her first coaching title at the 2010 African Football Championship , which Nigeria won for the eighth time and thus qualified for the 2011 Women's World Cup. In a test match shortly after the African Championship, she suffered the highest defeat in a friendly game against European champions Germany with 8-0. The end in qualifying for the All African Games against Ghana was also surprising . She was supported in her work by Thomas Obliers .

Shortly after the start of the women's soccer World Cup in 2011 , it became known that Uche had banned all lesbian players from the national team in the run-up to the World Cup . Uche justified this with the fact that the lesbians caused problems within the team and that they could not tolerate the "dirty way of life" of the lesbians. The world association FIFA initially did not react to Uche's statements. After Tatjana Haenni, FIFA's head of department for women's football competitions, announced that she would ask the Nigerian coach about the issue, Uche denied ever having made such statements.

After Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, Uche was fired.

  6. Uche stated verbatim, “Yes, the lesbians on our team were really a big problem. But since I've been the Falcons trainer, that's all gone. There is no longer a lesbian player on my team. We need divine intervention to control and limit homosexuality. It worked for us. I can't tolerate this dirty way of life. ”
