Nguru is a ska band from the Chur area , the capital of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland . It was founded in 1996.

history

Shortly after it was founded, the six-member group in Chur developed a good reputation as a live band and in 1997 also performed outside of Chur for the first time. In 1998 Leech Records became aware of Nguru and after a few concerts and appearances they recorded their first record with the title Twelvepack in 2000 . The reviews were mostly positive (also internationally): They allowed them to play on big stages as a support act for international Ska greats such as the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and Skarface for the past two years . They also played at larger festivals such as the Greenfield in Interlaken .

In 2001 the band recorded their second album Timezone II . In addition to the usual skatracks from Nguru, reggae , dub and hip-hop beats were used this time. Nevertheless, according to their own statements, they never wanted to leave the ska line.

In 2004 they released their album Songs from the Boondocks .

In 2005 Carlo Egle succeeded Matti Tscharner, who had been the group's songwriter and singer since 1996 and who is now on solo paths under the name "Malenco". "Armed" only with guitar and harmonica , "Malenco" plays reggae , folk and rock songs.

In 2007 they released their album IV: With Bleeding Hearts Through Burning Skies .

In 2010 Elmar Tscharner succeeded Martin Würth.

In 2015, Richard Just succeeded Lukas Waldburger.

In 2015 they released their latest album Wolfpack .
