(Anthony) Nicholas Colin Maitland Biddulph, 5th Baron Biddulph (born April 8, 1959 ) is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

life and career

Biddulph was born to Robert Biddulph, 4th Baron Biddulph and his wife, Lady Mary Helena Maitland. He usually uses his middle name Nicholas. After the family of his mother, a granddaughter of the 15th Earl of Lauderdale , he changed his surname from Biddulph to Maitland Biddulph in 1978 .

He attended Cheltenham College and the Royal Agricultural College . Later he worked as an interior designer . He is also active in agriculture and as a sports manager.

Biddulph is a member ( Liveryman ) of the guild of the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers . He is a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

His hobbies include shooting , fishing , skiing , painting and horse racing . He lived in London in 2003 and later in Kelso .

Membership in the House of Lords

After his father's death in 1988, he inherited the title of Baron Biddulph and the associated seat in the House of Lords . He took his seat for the first time on March 1, 1989. He delivered his inaugural address on April 17, 1996 on the subject of beef production . This remained his only request to speak. Its membership ended by the House of Lords Act 1999 .

For one of the remaining seats he ran unsuccessfully. Biddulph placed 99th. Only 42 seats were awarded to his party.

He is listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election. He stood for by-election on the occasion of the death of Hugh Mackay, 14th Baron Reay , and took one of the back seats. Previously, he had unsuccessfully started in 2011 after the death of Geoffrey Russell, 4th Baron Ampthill .

family

Biddulph married Sián Diana Gibson-Watt on August 28, 1993, daughter of David Gibson-Watt, Baron Gibson-Watt and Diana Hambro. In 2001 they got divorced. The marriage resulted in two sons.
