Nicholas Chan

Nicholas Chan (born March 6, 1986 in Malaysia ) is a Malaysian chess player .

Life

Nicholas Chan studied medicine at the Indian Manipal College in Manipal near Udupi and is a doctor. He plays club chess in Malaysia for Kam Mah .

successes

He won the Malaysian individual championship in 2003 and 2004 in Kuala Lumpur . For the Malaysian national team he played at the 2002 Chess Olympiad in Bled and the 2003 Asian Team Championship in Jodhpur , both on the third board.

In the Asian Cities Chess Championship he took part in 2002 for Kuala Lumpur on the fourth board and in 2013 for Shah Alam on the top board.

He has held the title of International Master (IM) since October 2018 . He achieved the standards for this at the Southeast Asian Games 2005 in Tagaytay with overachievement, at the 14th IGB Dato Arthur Tan International Open in September 2017 in Kuala Lumpur and at the 15th edition of this chess tournament in August 2018. His Elo rating is 2378 (as of: April 2020), he is behind Yinn Long Wong and Li Tan Yeoh in third place in the Malaysian Elo ranking. His highest rating was 2403 in July and September 2009.
