The 23rd Southeast Asian Games took place from November 27th to December 5th, 2005 in the Philippine capital Manila .

At the 23rd SEA Games in Manila, the Games had the largest number of sporting events in the history of the Games. 36 sports were played in 393 events and 1,461 medals were awarded.

The theme of the XXIII. The Southeast Asian Games read: "One origin, one Southeast Asia" and should serve as a sign that the Southeast Asians had to work more closely together in order to be successful.

Metro Manila served as the main venue for the Games, although many disciplines were held in Bacolod , Cebu , Los Baños and Canlubang , Laguna , Tagaytay in Cavite , Angeles City in Pampanga , Subic Bay and the Zambales Free Trade Zone .
